Scripps "CELLebrate" Science at The Gardens Mall

What: The Gardens Mall is hosting a community event to mark the one-year anniversary of Scripps Florida’s permanent facility in Jupiter, Florida. “CELLebrate” Science will offer visitors a glimpse into the exciting biomedical research being conducted at Scripps Florida and feature six hands-on activity stations, a scavenger hunt-style science discovery walk, fun giveaways and the opportunity to interact with Scripps scientists. This family friendly event is designed to be entertaining and educational for curious minds of all ages.
The interactive science booths at The Gardens Mall include:
- aMAZEing Proteins featuring a protein maze that leads to a Proteomics touch screen display – proteomics is the study of proteins, the essential parts of any organism.
- The ScrippsBOT, which features a Wii controlled robotic arm activity
- Go F.I.S.H, which features transgenic glow fish and a Green Fluorescent Protein station – this protein is widely used in biomedical research to study living cells.
- Express Yourself, which features exhibits on gene expression and a live examination of sepia and red eye fruit flies.
- Synthesize features various chemical reactions, plus screaming gummy bears and changing aspirin to oil of winter green.
- Energize features exhibits on methanol cars and fans and hydrolysis – how molecules are split in two.
In addition to the interactive booths, visitors will be able to discover fascinating facts about DNA and important scientific discoveries from The Scripps Research Institute by taking part in a short Science Discovery Walk, which will feature informative displays along the path to the various booths. Every visitor who completes a fun and simple quiz during the walk will receive a special keepsake and be entered into a raffle to wine a special prize.
